Staying Alive

Staying Alive is a love letter to resilience and the ways we turn light into a lifeline. Over more than a year, I returned to this portrait again and again— layering fragments of shine and bursts of color until the figure became both a shield and a beacon. The disco ball functions as a helmet of survival: a thousand tiny mirrors that refract experience into something dazzling, transforming distortion into pattern, memory into glow. The explosions of color are sound made visible-the pulse of a dance floor, the unruly energy of creativity, the chaos and clarity of continuing anyway. With the eyes veiled, the work invites you to feel before you analyze, to listen for the beat that keeps the body upright. Glamour becomes armor here; celebration becomes strategy. Joy is not denial-it's resistance, repair, and proof of life. This piece moves between vulnerability and bravado, inviting the viewer to meet it somewhere in the middle: in motion, in color, in breath. Staying Alive is a portrait of persistence— how we carry light into the dark and let it move us forward.
