“In This Corner of My Brain” measures approx. 30” x 30” and crafted using Acrylic yarn. The bright neon colored yarn was used to represent living out loud and being unapologetically ourselves. This is an ode to all the quiet kids who were afraid to be themselves, and that there will hopefully come a day when they’ll feel safe enough to fully live authentically. This piece is a reminder to live proudly, with love, joy, and color at the forefront of the brain. For myself, growing up as a queer kid in a conservative household, I was conditioned to stay quiet about my uniqueness in order to "keep the peace," but who was that "peace" for exactly? It definitely was not mine, and with that being said, as a young adult that is emerging into the world, I choose to live in my own happiness every day. "In This Corner of My Brain" shows as a visual representation of the joyous, whimsical inner child part of our mind that will remain with us no matter the age in hopes to bring us cheer and light into our lives, if you allow it to shine through. My name is Taylor Woolhouse, also known as Ethereal Rugs, and I am a self-taught textile artist from Fresno, CA. I specialize in the art of Tufting, which consists of using a hand-held tufting gun machine to weave and cut the yarn through a base cloth in order to create the stunning works of art that you can touch. I enjoy incorporating various glimpses of art styles into my textile work, such as abstract shapes, collage art, and graffiti made with bright bold colors that catch the eye.
