Hello, I'm Matt Markum.

Matthew Markum was born in Mission Viejo​,​ California in 1990 and currently resides in Los Angeles. He is a disjunctive narrative painter​,​ known for his vibrant​,​ collage-like compositions that weave together surrealism​,​ abstraction​,​ and the complexities of contemporary life. Markum earned his M.A. degree from California State University​,​ Northridge (CSUN)​,​ where he continued to expand his exploration of the intersection between personal experience and cultural influences. His work has been featured in a variety of group exhibitions​,​ including Pop Culture & Trashy at Shockboxx in Redondo Beach (2021)​,​ The Artists Gallery Group Show at Tag Gallery in Los Angeles (2021)​,​ Various Group Exhibitions at Artlounge Collective in Los Angeles (2023)​,​ and Cityscapes and Streetscapes at Santa Clarita City Hall (2024). Markum's practice focuses on a dynamic interplay of materials and stylistic influences​,​ where abstraction​,​ representation​,​ and personal introspection converge. Through his work​,​ he continues to engage with the evolving cultural landscape​,​ using curiosity and process as guiding forces in his creative journey.
