Hello, I'm Matt Markum.
Matthew Markum was born in Mission Viejo, California in 1990 and currently resides in Los Angeles. He is a disjunctive narrative painter, known for his vibrant, collage-like compositions that weave together surrealism, abstraction, and the complexities of contemporary life. Markum earned his M.A. degree from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where he continued to expand his exploration of the intersection between personal experience and cultural influences. His work has been featured in a variety of group exhibitions, including Pop Culture & Trashy at Shockboxx in Redondo Beach (2021), The Artists Gallery Group Show at Tag Gallery in Los Angeles (2021), Various Group Exhibitions at Artlounge Collective in Los Angeles (2023), and Cityscapes and Streetscapes at Santa Clarita City Hall (2024). Markum's practice focuses on a dynamic interplay of materials and stylistic influences, where abstraction, representation, and personal introspection converge. Through his work, he continues to engage with the evolving cultural landscape, using curiosity and process as guiding forces in his creative journey.
