Hello, I'm Debra Wright.

Debra Wright (she​/​her) is a found object​,​ installation and avant-garde artist residing in Northern Virginia. Her work has been exhibited internationally in traditional venues but has also appeared in commissioned and unauthorized public art installations throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Debra’s current body of work reflects her deep commitment to social justice​,​ human rights and the pursuit of personal identity. Utilizing found objects as her primary medium​,​ Debra’s concepts convey commentary on social issues while encouraging introspection and community engagement. Currently represented by Kyo Gallery (Alexandria​,​ Virginia)​,​ Debra is part of the Managing Committee for The Feminist Art Project; both the Regional Coordinator Chair and Northern Virginia Regional Coordinator for The Feminist Art Project; an active member of The Women’s Caucus for Art (National​,​ D.C.​,​ and Northern California Chapters); an Artist Member of The Museum of Modern Art (New York​,​ New York); a supporting member of The National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington​,​ D.C.); and an ally of 5célula Arte y Comunidad​,​ an alliance of artists and collectives from Mexico​,​ Latin America and Asia. In 2021​,​ Debra was appointed to the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts (Fairfax​,​ Virginia) where she served as Chair of the Public Art Committee until 2024. Debra also volunteers with local and national collectives promoting public art​,​ fostering diversity and encouraging equity for marginalized groups.
