Hello, I'm ChrisLowe.
I am a San Diego-based artist who has been creating art since 1994. I attended San Diego State University, where I received a BA in Applied Design (focus on Jewelry and Metalsmithing), as well as an MFA in Metalsmithing. That foundation in design and physical process continues to inform everything I do. Early on, I focused on copper tooling and colored pencil techniques. That’s where my love for rich textures and color took root. Over time, my work evolved to include mirrors and dimensional wall art, often featuring whimsical shapes and characters layered with detailed patterns and textures. Lately, I’ve been working more with acrylic paint, ink, and paper appliqué, building layered compositions on canvas and wood panels. I’m still drawn to playful forms and patterns, but now with a looser, more spontaneous feel. Some have described my work as both structured and free, and I think that’s a pretty accurate way to put it. Regardless of the medium, I strive to remain thoughtful, curious, and open to where the process leads me, while always keeping a sense of play at its core.
