Hello, I'm Beth Gilbert Larkin.
Born and raised in Nashville, TN and influenced at an early age by my interior designing mother and talented seamstress grandmother, I have always had a strong desire and gained great satisfaction from creating unique objects, inventive environments, and vibrant art. My studio days in high school and college, expanded my knowledge of drawing, painting, and sculpting, which instilled a life-long love of delving into the creative process. As an art teacher for almost a decade, I was further inspired by the playful process of children making art in my preschool art classes. My art expresses bold color, intricate patterns and depths of texture through a maximalist, more is more approach. The subject matter of my pieces is often influenced by my studies in metaphysics, philosophy, spirituality and religious traditions. Stories, legends and teachings in books, podcasts and off of social media, come alive in the realm of my imagination and are translated into bold works of art. My current works are focused on acrylic painting on canvas, sometimes combined with collage. In addition to painting I enjoy working with 3D materials like cardboard and recycled items, as well as paper maché and beaded jewelry.
