Hello, I'm Marjorie Parker.
My name is Marjorie Parker and I am a mixed media artist and photographer living in Austin, Texas. I'm a lifelong Texan with roots all over the state. I spent most of my childhood in west Texas, where big clouds and vibrant sunsets stirred my imagination. My parents recognized my artistic inclinations early on and put me in art classes when other kids were in sports or scouts. In my teens, we moved back to central Texas where I started studying watercolor with a local artist. Much of my early work is florals and landscapes and I still enjoy watercolor although I've branched out in other media. I attended the University of Texas at Austin and earned a BS in Advertising (or some might say a BS in BS). While art has always been my true passion, I chose that path because it was the intersection of art and business. I worked briefly in the ad world but found the competitive nature was not my cup of tea and 3 martini lunches aren't sustainable. From there, life meandered into publishing, graphic design, and even bookkeeping as I juggled the demands of being a mom and helping my family. My return to art stems from the dissolution of my marriage and being free from the obligations of putting my creative energy into projects for others. So now I'm back to my happy place, painting and not giving a crap. I love pop culture, bright colors, western landscapes, fashion, and being cheeky. My art and photography encompasses a broad range of styles and subjects simply because I'm into EVERYTHING. I like to have fun. It's a bit like being in a kaleidoscope sometimes, you never know what will pop up next.
