Hello, I'm Michael Souza.
Michael Souza Pencil and Paper Michael is a self-taught artist who works only in pencil and paper, the basics of all art. Michael started sketching 14 years ago, he favors portraits and animals, with a passion to capture the character and personality of the person or animal. Michael has always appreciated the absences of color, starting with an earlier venture into black and white photography and a love for the work of Ansel Adams. Although color is beautiful it can also be distracting, Michael prefers the viewer to use their imagination if they find a need for color, with black and white the focus of the viewer is more on the details, skill and the image being viewed. Michael’s work has been accepted and earned many awards in art competitions including; Elk Grove Fine Art Center, Haggin Museum Stockton, Lodi Community Art Cener, Tracy Art League, Delicato Fine Art Show Manteca, Mistlin Gallery Modesto, MAC -Merced Art Center, Carengie Art Center Turlock, Madera Art Center, Fresno Art Council, Pence Gallery, Davis and Sacramento Art Center, Sacramento.
