Hello, I'm Adrienne Mixon.

Through surreal and nostalgic imagery in analog collage, I aim to explore subconscious material and popular culture. The work emerges from spiritual inquiry and resistance to mind control with a focus on transformation, destruction and rebirth. I am drawn to images with conflicting relationships, playful and absurd combinations. The tension between the natural, unseen, and material illusions are transmitted through repurposed and recontextualized materials. The pursuit of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual integration is documented in the work. Each piece is an invitation to pause and consider what lies beneath the shallow surface of everyday life. A reconfiguration of matter and meaning through healing serves as a baseline for the creative process. I hope to guide the viewer to introspection of their own layers of psyche and relationship with the temporal vs spiritual, as well as their own potential for internal revolution. I work out of my home studio in Charleston, SC under the careful observation of Mister Black, the cat. The medium of analog collage means puzzles, play and freedom from technology. Inspiration can come from the materials themselves, pop culture, cinema, song lyrics, or in contemplating relationships seen and unseen. The foundation of the creative process is in the curation and collection of materials. Thrifted books, handed-down vintage magazines or any other source where images can be mined and archived. Collecting source material is intuitive and reflective; Seeing potential in the unconventional and the challenge of transformation by creating a new story is a key element in the process.
