Hello, I'm Mark Zanni.
I paint to reflect on and share my perspective on our temporal world, identifying the absurdity that I see in life, while attempting to do so without pretense. I strive to tell a story with each of my paintings. However, the meaning of these stories is always open for interpretation by the viewer. My paintings are not hospital art, as they attempt to draw attention and spur discussion. I work almost exclusively in oil and feel that while the subjects for my paintings are diverse; humor and satire are ever present and are driving forces in my work. My paintings are accessible and may be seen as cartoonish, humorous and garish. My work is also conceptual, figurative and a tad bit surrealistic. Think Rene Magritte + Walt Disney + Otto Dix. While not creating in a singular style, I can best be described as a Neo Expressionist (akin to the New Objectivity artists from the Weimar Republic) as I create works using strong bright colors, painterly brush strokes and narrative figurative imagery.
