Raining in Manila

Abstract rendering of a memory of a rainstorm in Manila. The title is reference to pop song of the same title. Images such as Spider-Man and a baseball player are visible underneath the streaks of rain. The baseball player image in particular became a symbol for loneliness; alone in the outfield chasing after a ball. In one of the upper corners appears a dragon and on the opposite side a group of individuals “chasing” that dragon. In between those two images, you can find an old cigarette ad complete with a cowboy. This painting was completely spontaneous in its creation. I rifled through magazines and books, ripping anything that seemed right at the time. About a week earlier I was caught outside during a rainstorm, and these are not the rain storms we have in California. The rain was so heavy, I could hardly make out the skyscrapers right in front of me. *The wood panel has slight bend; price has been adjusted **Ships from the Philippines; typically 3-7 days
