Billy and the Goat

Tagline: Shadows wrestle with memory on a fractured surface. A hooded figure emerges from layers of paint and texture, caught between concealment and revelation. The piece weaves human presence with an elemental roughness, balancing myth and modern grit.

Materials

This is from our Symbiosis collection which is an ongoing collaboration between abstract painter Sharon Cannon and photographer Don Saban. Each work begins with one of Cannon's richly textured oil paintings, into which Saban digitally merges a photographic image from his archive. The result is not a simple overlay, but a seamless visual fusion --where painting and photography intertwine and transform each other. Printed with archival pigment inks on cold press paper, the final pieces carry the expressive energy of paint and the clarity of the lens. Together, they form a layered exploration of memory, perception, and presence--work that neither artist could have made alone.
