Transmigration of the Soul

This piece was made for an exhibition about change. Transmigration of the soul implies change. It refers to the movement of an individual’s soul from one physical body to another after death. This concept of reincarnation is grounded in the belief that the soul is immortal and cannot be destroyed. Many Eastern religions believe in transmigration of the soul. This concept has its roots in ancient Greek philosophy. I wanted to illustrate the idea of the soul leaving the body. Unique woman image was made by the artist using AI, printed on water-soluble paper, then transferred to polymer clay. After baking, the clay images were hand-painted for enhancement. The clay image was mounted to a wood art board that was covered in pre-printed paper decoupage on all visible sides, then piece was sealed with polyurethane. Resin flowers were added to further enhance the soul leaving the body. Comes ready to hang with picture wire and hardware fastened to back.
