Que Sera Sera is a recent work that returns to a theme I find myself continually drawn to—the passage of time, the experience of aging, and our deeply human desire to glimpse what lies ahead. At its heart is a long-held wish to know the unknowable, particularly when it comes to the lives and futures of those I love. Created in polymer clay, the female figure gazes downward toward a crystal ball, an enduring symbol of prophecy and foresight. Yet her eyes are veiled by a delicate gauze blindfold, rendering the future just beyond her reach. The word VISION, inscribed across her forehead, suggests another kind of sight—an inward vision shaped by intuition, memory, hope, and imagination. Her clothing and the surrounding collage are composed of playing cards and Tarot imagery, objects historically associated with chance, fate, and attempts to divine what has yet to unfold. Woven throughout the background are lyrics from Que Sera Sera, culminating in the refrain that resonates most deeply within the piece: “the future’s not ours to see.” The work rests within that contradiction—the longing to know what comes next and the quiet recognition that we cannot. Perhaps there is both vulnerability and freedom in surrendering to that mystery: what will be, will be.
