Up In Smoke
Up in Smoke is part of a series of work that began in 2025. This piece was inspired by the magnificent libraries I visited in Europe a few years ago. The female figure, with the word "Knowledge" inscribed on her forehead, is placed within an ornate Renaissance-style library, surrounded by the words of writers and thinkers who understood what's at stake when access to knowledge is threatened. She holds a book, its pages and words on rights and liberty ablaze. Her crown burns as well, yet out of the flames a dove rises — a small symbol of hope, and a reminder of what survives even when all seems lost.
