Mother Earth Weeps
Mother Earth Weeps is a piece about climate change. The central figure, created out of polymer clay, holds a small planet Earth ringed in fire. Tears fall down her face, which is marked with tattoos of the sun and moon, along with the words "Terra Mater" (Mother Earth) inscribed on her forehead. Behind her, the world is in crisis — both the forest and the ocean are aflame, and embers flicker in the night sky Around her, animals, birds, and plants remain — flora and fauna, oceans and forests alike — all shaped by the warming of our planet and the weight of human activity. The text that runs across the top of the piece and continues at the bottom reads like a love letter from Mother Earth: "Dear Future, I am now ready to change the world." Hopefully, it is not too late.
