Invitation

My art is a celebration of the beauty and individuality of animals. I have always been drawn to their innocence, strength, and honesty. My chief influence is where I grew up: along the AuSable River in the northern Michigan—a place that draws people from all over the world who fly-fish, participate in the annual canoe marathon, and want to be near clean, fresh water. Currently Michigan is experiencing the fallout from years and years of PFAS pollution. High rates of cancer now permeate the area in which I grew up. Areas of the AuSable are now deemed no-fishing zones, including a nine-mile stretch where it empties into Lake Huron in the town of Oscoda. The poison in the river is destroying the fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds that populate its waters, banks, and surrounding swamps and forests.
