La Malinche (Solo una chica)
In the Habitar series, the artist explores the multifaceted experience of existing in a human body, delving into the many expressions of sexual and gender identity. Each piece and layer of paint navigates the complexities of being and the emotions that arise when moving through different gender expressions. By the end of Habitar, the reality of inhabiting a female body is confronted and embraced. On the other hand, Girlhood explores the vast spectrum of femininity, particularly the aspects the artist felt unable to experience during adolescence due to body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria. The series also pays tribute to controversial historical female figures such as La Malinche, Marie Antoinette, and Sor Juana, who were harshly judged for being women. These pieces reflect their stories and the societal pressures they faced, intertwining with the artist’s personal exploration of femininity.
