Memento Mori

Memento mori is a Latin expression that translates to “remember that you must die.” It’s not meant to be morbid. Instead, it’s a philosophical reminder of the inevitability of death and, more importantly, the value of life. At its heart, memento mori is about awareness that: Life is finite, so don’t waste it. Death is universal, so stay humble. Time is limited, so focus on what matters. Mortality is certain, so live with intention. Rather than encouraging fear, it encourages clarity. When you remember that life ends, you tend to live more fully. In medieval Christianity, memento mori appeared in art, sermons, and literature as a reminder to live virtuously, avoid sin, and prepare for the afterlife. Skulls, hourglasses, and wilting flowers became symbolic motifs of memento mori. This piece reflects that traditional symbolism. Unique images were made by the artist using AI, printed on water-soluble paper, then transferred to polymer clay. After baking, the clay images were hand-painted for enhancement. The clay images were mounted to a wood art board that was covered in pre-printed paper decoupage on all visible sides, then piece was sealed with polyurethane. Comes ready to hang with picture wire and hardware fastened to back.
