Pyramid

Pyramid is a rectangular glass panel made using 17 layers of clear glass, featuring a series of nested, stepped shapes in varying shades of blue. The shapes create a geometric pattern resembling a stylized letter "T" forming a standing pyramid shape, with the darkest blue at the center gradually transitioning to lighter shades toward the outer edges. The stepped layers give the piece a sense of depth and dimension, while the clean lines and gradient shading emphasize a minimalist and modern aesthetic. The frontmost layer of the artwork is a clean, very light blue, which contrasts sharply with the dark blues, making the central pattern stand out prominently.

Materials

This sculpture is made from 17 layers of glass, with a different part of the sculpture painted on each layer. When all layers were complete the enamel is baked on in a kiln at a temperature of 1100F. When cool, the layers are then stacked back into the kiln, surrounded with brick (to keep the glass from flowing into a puddle), then heated again to 1500F until the layers melt together into a solid thick panel. After it is cooled the glass is ground smooth and polished.
