Ready to Immigrate

Our continuous "current" political discourse along with my own lifelong commitment to embrace diversity, discover and interact with cultures and ethnicity pushed my artistic storytelling to make a statement. I experienced much of my international travel as a former flight attendant for Pan American World Airways. Often in my travels I unknowingly witnessed historical events: Removal of the Berlin Wall, overthrow of government in Trinidad (our crew was held hostage for 1 week), bombing of Pan Am ticket counters, drug mules in Columbia and the ever-changing political climate of South America. I discovered on my travels then and now that many people just wanted to immigrate to a free and safe country to have opportunities for a better life. Many gave up their only known way of life, willing to leave their homelands with just a suit case, or become a bride to a foreigner. The borders and parameters put on people's lives by those in governmental power require one to look beyond their own lives and see others. The concept for “Ready for Immigration” came at the death of Castro, November 25, 2016, in which childhood memories flooded her imagination of the struggles her friends had experienced. Though without their displacement and opportunity to come to America, (freedom flights and make shift boats) they might not have been life long friends. Upon moving to Southern California, practicing as a Psychotherapist, Art Therapist and Artist, Trish has experienced the controversial issues of Mexicans crossing the border again addressing racism and immigration. We are currently revisiting the topic of "Immigration and Illegal Status People", thus this piece was birthed out my political awareness, humanitarian activism, experiences and lifelong friendships. Ready to Immigrate has shown in many gallery and musueums exhibitions. Always receiving thoughtful conversations.
