Variations of Jenell - Part Three
"Variations of Jenell – Part Three" is a continuation of my portrait series honoring women who have stirred something bold and unshakable within me. Jenell, a performance artist based in San Francisco, is the subject of this piece, a woman whose expressive presence and fearless vulnerability captivated me from the start. In this third interpretation of her, I explore not just the surface of her image, but the echo of movement and transformation that surrounds her work. Through layered brushwork, unexpected color shifts, and textured marks, I sought to capture the multiplicity of her spirit, the performer, the thinker, the woman behind the mask. This series, which I began as a way to reconnect with creative energy after a long season of artistic doubt, has become a mirror reflecting the power of women who live unapologetically. Jenell reminds me that identity is never fixed; it’s a series of lived expressions, always becoming. This piece is both a tribute and a question: Who are we in our stillness? Who are we in our motion? And who do we become when we allow others to truly see us?
