Hello, I'm Cathy Carey.

I was born in Washington DC and studied at the Corcoran School of Art from and received my BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. My career has been shaped by an enduring commitment to expressing the joy​,​ resilience​,​ and emotional depth found in the natural world. I am currently represented by galleries in Santa Fe and Taos​,​ New Mexico​,​ as well as in Scottsdale and Tucson​,​ Arizona. Collectors and viewers often describe my paintings as “joyful energy made visible” and “a source of mental resilience and joy in a challenging world.” Through bold color and dynamic gesture​,​ I strive to create visual experiences that evoke optimism​,​ harmony​,​ adaptation through resilience and a profound emotional connection. My paintings—whether of rolling hills​,​ desert flora​,​ or spirited animals—are infused with an intuitive rhythm that places feeling above form and movement above strict realism. At the core of my work is the belief that landscapes are not merely seen​,​ but felt. My paintings are emotional portraits of the journeys we each take through time and space. I depict mountains as encounters to be climbed​,​ waterways as moments of refreshing insight​,​ and animal companions as symbols of friendship and connection. Each piece reflects the challenges of the future stretching before us like a highway paved with imagination and memory. I seek to express how our thoughts and emotions shape the world we experience—how our inner landscape becomes the outer one. My work explores the deep and inseparable connection between ourselves and our environment: we shape the land with our stories and​,​ in turn​,​ are shaped by the spirit and essence of the places we inhabit.
