Tender Without Permission centers the radical act of softness in a culture of armor. The title alone is a provocation—claiming intimacy not granted by societal norms. Abstracted figures overlap and blur, resisting easy categorization. The palette is bruised yet hopeful—ochres and pinks brush against inked scars. Hanley invites viewers into a liminal space where Queer tenderness thrives, not in spite of its lack of permission—but because of it. Previously exhibited at the 2025 PROUD+, The Studio Door Gallery, San Diego, CA.
