Cosmic Circus draws inspiration from two seemingly disparate sources. Growing up in Southern California, I spent many days at Disneyland, where my favorite ride was always Peter Pan. I will never forget the pure joy of sailing in a small boat through the night sky, gazing down at the twinkling lights of London Town below. My second source of inspiration comes from a lifelong fascination with the imagery of ancient texts and medieval atlases. The hand-drawn constellations in these works have always captivated me—images that reimagine the heavens through medieval eyes, transforming the stars into a dazzling circus of creatures and symbols. In Cosmic Circus, these influences converge. A female figure, with tiny stars embedded on her forehead, floats in a hot-air balloon basket suspended beneath a vintage circus tent. From her perch, she has a front-row seat to the mystery and wonder of the night sky.
