Ridge Lines - Coral

Ridge Lines is a solid rectangular glass panel with vertical ridges running throughout the work. It is made from 16 layers of glass painted using enamel in rich coral hues, allowing light to pass through and create a glowing effect. The ridges add texture and dimensionality, emphasizing the play of light and shadow across its surface. The panel stands upright on one of its broader edges, showcasing both its depth and height, with clean, sharp edges and a smooth finish.

Materials

This sculpture is made from 16 layers of glass, with a different part of the sculpture painted on each layer. When all layers were complete the enamel is baked on in a kiln at a temperature of 1100F. When cool, the layers are then stacked back into the kiln, surrounded with brick (to keep the glass from flowing into a puddle), then heated again to 1500F until the layers melt together into a solid thick panel. After it is cooled the glass is ground smooth and polished.
