Hello, I'm Shari Cookson.

Shari Cookson takes artistic cues from lived experiences and imaginative interpretation. She creates canvases with an intimate and emotive quality, featuring themes of humanity, diversity, and our relationship to one another and the world around us. She approaches her subject matter through figurative representation, expressionistic and abstract details and experimental technique with a penchant for folk-art, whimsy and color. She works in acrylics, oils, mixed media and digital mediums. With a passion for mixing color, texture and form in unexpected ways, she sees painting as a boundlessly open universe that constantly evolves. She is also an Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker whose journeys to record her subjects’ lives have given her a deep palette of perspectives to incorporate into her painting. She lives in Los Angeles and Vista and often includes Southern California references in her art.
