“Nobody Is Born A Racist” is part of a series titled, “Messages”. The photographs are political ​/​ social statements of graffiti from around the world cropped to give an emphasis on the perceived message or a message I would like the viewer to imagine. The walls and surfaces around the world are a living ongoing canvas for art and graffiti. There are many souls infused on these surfaces. Time has become the main artist. I have captured, cropped and edited the graffiti (Messages) photographs from my travels to continue transforming how one may read the messages coming from these images. Some are political, some are purely open for interpretation, and then some are like DADA experiments to me. In all of my interpretations I am playing with proportion and harmony as I see it with geometry, color and texture. This was a small portion of the actual image on the wall. I wanted to make the child androgynous. It struck me as being so incredibly sad but quite beautiful. It also struck me at that moment how a child still learning the ways of the world would feel the first time they encountered racism - confused, sad, upset and not wanted. Any child of any race would feel the same way the first time they are discriminated against for no inherent reason. I played around with adding color and shapes to this picture to emphasize the eyes and lips. All the other elements in the image were present when I took the photograph.
