Hello, I'm Christine Tangarie.
I am a photographic artist and I also print my own photographic work. Rooted in a deep appreciation for traditional fine art, I approach photography as a painter might—I select and compose scenes through the lens, often cropping directly in-camera. This leads many viewers to mistake my photographs for paintings, a perception I secretly delight in and intentionally encourage. Inspired by my international travels and a lifelong reverence for the arts—ranging from film and literature to sculpture and classical painting—I draw on a wide array of creative influences. My work reflects a blend of tradition and innovation, while also paying homage to the great photographers of the past but at the same time offering a contemporary voice. In 2018, I opened my first working studio and boutique gallery in the Design District of Solana Beach, California. The gallery showcased my diverse body of work, from in-progress explorations to fully realized prints. Every piece is printed in-studio using archival inks and museum-quality papers, including specialty fine art stocks and metal substrates. My photography is held in numerous private and corporate collections. In 2017, two of my works were licensed by the Andaz Hotel in downtown San Diego and transformed into large-scale murals within the hotel’s main event space. Beyond my creative practice, I have contributed to the broader arts community through leadership and service, having served on the boards of both the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild and the Del Mar Art Center. I just recently moved to Oceanside, CA and look forward to exploring the arts in my new hometown.
